The Corps of Topographic Engineers joined the Army Corps of Engineers. This federal agency is still in operation today. It is currently the largest agency for public engineering, construction design, and surveying in the world. Today, there are projects in all fifty US states and over 90 countries. The Corps of Engineers owns and manages over 600 dams. Each year, it dredges more that 255,000,000 cubic feet during construction projects or maintenance. Nearly all of Corps of Engineers’ projects involve extensive surveying during construction as well as maintenance and repairs.
